Cartoons As Weapons of War?

What if it were that easy I ask? What if instead of sending nuclear enabled ICBMs to your neighboring countries, you could solve you anxiety and frustration thru designer cartoons? What if we all stepped back and laughed at ourselves and each other and determined all this sound and fury does no one any good, but rather is creating animosity and spite which has lasted thru some 60 generations?

It seems as we saw the riots in the Muslim nations over the Danish University Newspaper cartoon of the Great Allaah with a turbine on his head made to look like a bomb signifying the most radical Islamic clerics who use their religion to recruit suicide bombers; we are learning a lesson indeed. The lesson is this; when someone wants to cause a conflict over something they will always find a way. They will always find a way to play victim or use the conflict label another or a group or even a nation.

We know in watching human groupings and chimpanzee troops or even High School Football team cross town rivals that to build a team, you must first pick an enemy. Well not always, but we know that such a method is perhaps the easiest way. Rather than uniting ourselves against another, why not unite all in a common cause of cartooning.

So that we may look at ourselves and our neighbors and just laugh at the whole thing; after all we are a bunch of silly humans and get all worked up nothing at times. Come on humor me, this was not such a bad article? Consider this in 2006.

The Different Cons of Homeschooling

Despite being a viable alternative to traditional classroom setting, there are still some people who feel that Homeschooling is not for everyone. Like many things, this new system of education has its disadvantages. \r Here are some of them.

1. When you decide to put your kids to homeschooling, you have to be prepared to spend all day with your children for several days. With homeschooling, you have to be their teacher. You have to be there to supervise their lessons and even check on their progress. You also have to think of activities and make worksheets. This is why most parents would leave work to go fulltime in teaching their kids.

2. Deciding on homeschooling will mean that you have to go against the norm. Be prepared to be grilled by other parents. You should also be prepared to find some difficulties when you do decide to put your kid back to mainstream. Adjustment will be hard as they will not be used to the environment that traditional education has.

3. Spending 24 hours of the day with your child and being their teacher is no joke. At the beginning, you really have to be patient with your child as he or she will not always understand the lesson as fast or as easily as you want. Do not lose your temper because this will only make matters worst. Remember that it is just normal for your kid to be behind in some subjects or to take a longer time understanding lessons.

4. Most would think that a homeschooling education is cheaper. This is not the case. Although you are not paying for any tuition fee, you have to shell out money for the materials that you will be using. Also, a parent may need to quit his or her job to become a full-time teacher. This can pose a problem in the finances especially if both incomes are needed to make both ends meet.

5. Being a teacher is not an easy task. Not only will you have to patient with your child but you also have to put an enthusiastic appearance even when you are not really in the mood to teach them their lessons. It is important that you make the lesson appear fun and interesting for them so that they will be interested to learn. When they see you bored stiff, they will also follow suit, making your task of teaching them all the more difficult.

Chamber Membership will BOOST your Business

When is the Chamber ideal for your business?

Joining a Chamber of Commerce is likely the best thing any business or individual can do. Chambers provide many benefits to members. They host networking events, normally called business after business. They also hold local trade shows that draw businesses from other communities, increasing the possibilities of making deals. Chambers are also known for promoting locally through events, websites and tourist bureaus. The cost of membership is not usually large, especially for smaller to medium size companies. Membership also includes the opportunity to become involved with various committees, sponsoring events and even becoming a keynote speaker for luncheons or dinners. The Chamber is an excellent way to keep up to date with business issues both locally and on a county and state basis. There are no restrictions as to the number of members in any category.

They also help you promote your business through newsletters and flyers that are distributed to the business community. You may also have the opportunity to put on a special event for Chamber members, offering them a discount to a program you are hosting. Chambers give you a voice and provide you with a vehicle to promote business ethics within the community.

Chambers are an excellent vehicle for start-ups and small businesses, but they are also a voice for medium size businesses as well. Chambers do not have requirements for membership other than keeping your dues current and living up to standard business ethics. Chambers do not have loyalty requirements and you can join as many Chambers as you wish. This is often advantageous when you do business in several cities. Other groups have strict loyalty requirements.

One last thing to note: your competition may also belong to the Chamber! It is very important to know all you can about your competitor and this is easy through Chamber membership.

History of Chocolate Gifts

Chocolate has long been given as a gift, particularly as a gift of affection or passion.

The forerunner to chocolate was the Aztec drink xocoatl, a mix of water, spices and ground cacao beans. Aztecs used the beans as a form of currency and for payment of tribute to their kings. An Indian Chief is said to have made a gift of a basket of cocoa beans to Christopher Columbus, although Columbus did not know what to do with the beans. Later, The Aztec King Montezuma presented Cortez and his conquistadors with gifts of cocoa beans. It is recorded that the Aztecs favored the beans above gold.

In 1615 Spanish Princess Anna of Austria gave to her new husband, King Louis XIII, a gift of chocolate. The drink became fashionable within Louis court and it quickly spread to Italy and later to Austria.

Casanova believed in the aphrodisial qualities of chocolate and often plied his romantic interests with gifts of chocolate.

Cadbury introduced the first chocolate box in 1765 when cocoa beans were brought to Dorchester, Massachusetts from the West Indies. Boxed chocolates have been given as gifts ever since.

In 1835 the master pastry chef to Emperor Franz Joseph make a gift of the first Imperial Torte, a five-layered chocolate cake with five layers of almond paste, to the Empress.

Queen Victoria made a New Years gift of specially molded chocolates to the British troops fighting the Boer War in South Africa in 1900.

During World War II American soldiers became well known to European children as gift bearers of 4-ounce chocolate bars.

Modern chocolatiers produce the finest gourmet and hand-made chocolates in history, many elegantly boxed for gift giving.

Curing Acne with Birth Control Pills

Is it a proper solution to reduce acne? There are many pros and cons about taking birth control pills for acne. If you would like to make a perfect decision you need to know all the pros and cons.

Though in some cases birth control pills can cease acne, but it depends on the root cause, skin type, hygiene habits, and heredity factors. Let us see the effects are expected.

Possible Positive effects:

1. There is a possibility that birth control pills will reduce some acne problems due to the amount of hormones that keeps the body in hormonal balance.
\r 2. These pills may regulate periods and prevent pregnancy.
\r 3. The birth control pills may alleviate premenstrual syndrome and cramps.

Possible Negative effects:

1. The birth control pill doesnt always prevent pregnancy.
\r 2. The Pill doesnt prevent sexually transmitted disease.
\r 3. It may cause cysts in the breasts.
\r 4. If somebody is too young it can cause acne yeast infections.

There is no guarantee that birth control pills will help you to cure your acne and your breakouts disappear. Especially if you have such acne that is not treatable by such hormones. Personally, I suggest you to find out the root cause of your acne and after that you will be able to choose your proper treatment. Not proper nutrition, male hormones, poor hygiene habits or your oily skin type also can cause acne.

Hong Kong - Survival Tips

So, you have decided to move to Hong Kong. You are captivated by the postcard sights of high-rises over the harbor and charmed by the comfortable blend of east and west that define this small-sized island. But before you pack your bags to head east to live out your oriental adventure, let me give you a few well-meaning advices.

Lose weight

If you are one of those overweight Caucasians, please shed off some extra kilos before you pack your bags. Now, what does losing weight has to do with moving to Hong Kong? Well, Hong Kong has 7 million inhabitants packed into a 423 sq. miles area resulting in a serious lack of space. Therefore, many toilets here require you to line up against the wall and squeeze in your tummy when you want to close the door. Alternatively, you may squeeze yourself between the side wall and the toilet bowl if you do not mind scraping your legs against the urine-stained toilet seat. If that still doesnt help at all, you can always try doing your business with the door wide open but, frankly, I have not seen such a case before. So, losing weight before you make your move is a very wise advice to follow.

Practise sharing tables

Because Hong Kong is an extremely crowded place, it is very, very common for strangers to take up the empty seats at your table in eateries. You cannot run away from sharing tables here, especially during peak hours, unless of course, you are one of those high-class people who can afford to eat in high-class restaurants 365 days a year. So, how do you practice? Easy. Look for a squarish mahjong-like table and have a friend sit across from you. Get him to noisily slurp down his bowl of noodles. If you can get two friends, that will be even better. Have them speak to each other in Greek on top of their voices while slurping their noodles. Your job is to pretend that they do not exist while you finish up your own meal. If they need to burp after the meal, do not stop them. The purpose is to get used to the idea of strangers belching in front of you so that you would not find the act repulsive and thus, losing your appetite. So, dont forget to give this lots of practice.

Learn to walk fast

Hong Kong life is pretty fast-paced and everyone here is living on millisecond timing. Therefore, it would be beneficial if you could train yourself up to walk like one of those long distance walkers you see in the Olympics. This would come in handy especially when you are part of a crowd waiting for the lights to turn green to go across because a mere second slower here will result on your heels being stepped on. Moreover, such training can give you machine-like arms with a perpetual swinging motion which you can then use to nudge aside human obstacles on ever crowded streets. So, please put on your sneakers and get the required training immediately.

Increase your pain tolerance

Due to lack of space, the average size of an apartment in Hong Kong is probably only around 500 to 600 sq. feet with 2 bedrooms squeezed into it. So, what does that mean? It means that you get to bump into every nook and corner because for every 3 steps that you take, you will be hitting something solid, be it a cupboard, table or wall. Therefore, for the one week prior to your departure, try knocking every conceivable part of your body onto table corners to increase your pain tolerance. This way, you would not have to howl in agony each time you bump into things in your smallish Hong Kong flat. Otherwise, your neighbor would be wondering what those frequent screams are all about, especially when it is way past midnight.

I hope you would find the above tips useful and welcome to Hong Kong.

Preparing Your Business for Sale

When selling a business you need to make sure your business is prepared correctly. Proper planning is crucial prior to any business sale. Creating a plan of attack is the best method. Having something down on paper is more reliable then trying to remember all of the important steps that need to be taken when advertising your business for sale. Document all of the important aspects of the business such as profit, expenses, accounts, staff etc and then include these in your presentation.

The next question you need to ask yourself is are you going to sell your business or are you going to utilize the services of a business broker? Until recently the popular trend when selling a business was to use a business broker who have years of experience when selling businesses, however with the power of the internet many business owners are now selling their own businesses and saving potentially thousands of dollars in agent commissions. Some people do not have the time to deal direct with potential buyers and are more comfortable putting the sale of the business in the hands of a broker.

Determining an accurate and realistic asking price for the business for sale can be tricky, as most business owners tend to over value the business, while most business buyers will under value a business. It is important that you can justify your asking price. Not doing so will almost certainly scare of any potential buyer. Seek professional help from your accountant when you want to value your business. It would be advised to have a professional evaluation completed and ready to present to any potential buyer. This will give the buyer a feeling of trust and help in the sale of any business.

Make sure that you offer any potential buyer your services after the sale for a week or two. Let them know that you intend on showing them exactly how to run and operate the business successfully. Inform the new owner of your competitors and personally introduce the new business owner to your accounts. If you include this in the package of your business for sale, it will be a very attractive inclusion in the sale. The True Purpose of a Tips Booklet

\”My topic doesn\’t fit into a how-to tips format.\”

That comment shows up periodically, and did again this week. \rEven when a person has written a novel, there are ways to create a tips booklet that can help market that novel plus become its own new source of revenue. THOSE are the purposes of a booklet.

A booklet is a way for the reader to test out the information of the author, to see if it\’s something that leads to wanting more of what the author\’s got. It\’s a way to gently approach a topic that may be otherwise overwhelming or brand new. It\’s one format of the material, which can then be embellished, expanded, or otherwise modified by the author.

A booklet is NOT the consummate reference on a given topic. A tips booklet, in particular, is NOT a narrative philosophical statement or observation of something. It\’s a tips booklet, with how-to\’s in it.

Let\’s say you wrote a novel, set on a rural farm in midwest America, and you want to sell lots of copies of that novel, which common wisdom says is a challenge to do. One way to do it could be by writing a tips booklet about ways (tips!) to live a happy, fulfilling, and interesting life in rural America, or on a farm. That would certainly give the reader of your book more of a connection to what your book is about, wouldn\’t it, especially when you include some specific invitation that looks something like \”for more about living on a farm in midwest America, you\’ll enjoy reading our book, \”Life in a Corn Field.\”

Or you are interested in featuring the accomplishments of some noteable people of current or historical times. Instead of a treatise about them, it could be very useful to create a tips booklet that includes guidance based on what those people did to accomplish what they accomplished, for others to mirror in their own lives.

Once in a rare while there is a topic that simply does not lend itself to a tips booklet. It\’s usually something in science or math and focused on theory. It\’s at that moment you\’ll see a glaze come onto my face. Otherwise, let\’s talk about what your tips booklet is and can be.

Paulette Ensign has sold well over a million copies of her own tips booklet, \”110 Ideas for Organizing Your Business Life,\” in four languages and various formats without spending a penny on advertising. From her San Diego, CA-based http://www.tipsbooklets.com, she assists individuals and groups transform their knowledge into tips booklets and other information products for marketing, motivating, and making money.

Dating and Divorce - When are you Safe to Re-enter the Dating Pool?

Many people who are going through a divorce think that it is all right to start dating again, considering they are getting a divorce anyway. However, these people may fail to realize that the timing of your new relationship can have severely impact the divorce proceedings.

Obviously, as an adult you are free to associated with whomever you choose. However, if you engage in sexual relations before your final divorce decree this will be viewed adultery. Adultery can affect your divorce in many ways.

If there are children involved, adultery may prevent you from being granted any custody rights. It may also have a detrimental affect of visitation rights. If you still manage to retain your children, you may receive less child support than you otherwise would. Conversely, you may be forced to pay more for child support than you would if you refrained from adultery.

As far as dating and divorce goes, my best advice is to wait, says Karen Meislik, a divorce attorney in New Jersey. Although you want to move on with your life, you simply should not risk the financial loss as well as the added emotional effect that dating can have on the divorce proceedings.

The amount of financial support you receive may also be decreased if you are cohabitating before your final divorce decree. If you decide to move in with someone you are having a sexual relationship with, New Jersey divorce courts will consider this when deciding child support and alimony. Again, it is in your best interest to wait until the divorce is final.

A divorce is a very difficult time. You may just want to forget about your problems at home, go out, have a good time, and meet someone new. Although this is the most desirable solution, it may be the worst decision you could make. Dating during your divorce can harm you financially as well as emotionally. You may not be ready for another relationship.

If you are currently faced with a divorce or anticipate a divorce in the near future, speak to an experienced divorce attorney and learn your rights. Currently, Ms. Meislik is offering free consultations for all divorce claims. Either contact her or call 973 783-3000 ext. 111 to schedule a time. Dont make the mistake of thinking you can start dating again. Find out for sure.

Paperless CPA Office - Myth or Reality?

As a new CPA on the block, about eight years ago, I had made it a practice to read as much as possible on practice management along with the regular reading I had to do keep up with the technical matters. I came across articles after articles about how it was possible for CPAs to operate in an almost paperless office. It was, however, quite difficult for me to imagine my own office being a paperless office.

How could a CPA really operate a practice without papers? I would wonder all the time. I thought of these talks about paperless offices as being something of a creation of imagination about how life would be in 2035 when I may not be there.

The technology that I was using in my office was helping me improve the production. It was also helping me learn some of the more advanced possibilities in my system. In my small practice, it was a simple client-server network with a T1 internet connection. It was during one of my overseas trips about four years ago, that I discovered the power of my system to its best. With the T1 connection and a static IP address, I was able to work on my office system from over 10,000 miles away without any problems. This was a wonderful experience and my desire to learn more about the paperless office became extremely strong at this point.

I spent a lot of time, powered by my strong desire, to learn on the ways I could possibly convert my CPA practice into a paperless practice. I had already enjoyed the pleasure of working on my office system from around the world. I thought that if I could only access all the other papers I needed to look at while working on a clients file I would not even need to be in the office at all to work. Besides enjoying the frustrations of continuous interruptions, accessing papers was the only remaining reason for me to be in the office. Sure there were other reasons, but to carry out my work for a client, accessing papers was the only one.

Now that my desire was so strong, I started running into various pre-packaged solutions advertised in the direct mail and magazine advertisements. I checked out a few, called a few 800 numbers and received some promotion materials. All turned out to be beyond my budget. I had learned a lot about the potentials of my simple office network by now, and figured out that I was too poor to afford some of the good pre-packaged solutions available out there for CPAs.

Upon a thorough study of the technology in my office and the hardware available in the market at affordable costs, I came to an unbelievable conclusion. It was unbelievable because based on my calculations the cost of converting to a paperless office was going to be 5 or 10% of what it would cost me to go with a pre-packaged solution. This happened within one year of my trip overseas and it has been three years since then. I could not believe it but I had a gut feeling that I was right in my conclusion. I considered the cost of failing in an attempt to go paperless not too high. I was already managing a paper-full practice and if an attempt to go paperless were to fail I would remain where I was a paper-full practice.

I spent a considerable amount of time developing the detailed plans on the whole process of going paperless, ordered the scanner that I had studied and found to be most affordable and launched the project. In terms of managing the staff time to work on the conversion process and managing priorities it was quite challenging. The process itself was quite enjoyable and revealing (about the hidden treasures in my filing cabinets) but above all quite enriching.

At the conclusion of my project to go paperless, about 60 days from when it started, I discovered that it was truly possible to manage an almost paperless office. I enjoyed more than two years of paperless office at my practice. The efficiency of the office went up significantly during that period. Clients experienced a different, a much higher level, of efficiency in service.

There were certain things that went right for me in this process. I was able to develop my understanding in this area over the years due to my curiosity and had a good handle over the capacity of my seemingly small office network. I discovered that the current office networks, in many small CPA offices, are like human brains. They are highly powerful and highly underutilized.

A paperless CPA office is no more a thing of the future. The true beneficiaries of this move by CPAs are their clients. CPAs who do not have to spend a lot of their time pushing papers and locating lost documents, would definitely be able to provide high-level services to their clients and benefit them more. All clients deserve a CPA who is at least paperless at the basic level, which is completely possible with a small office computer network and a very small investment.
