Is Homeschooling the New Way to Teach?

Its official folks, homeschooling is becoming the new way to educate the kids. Okay, so perhaps that statement is a little premature, but homeschooling is definitely becoming more and more popular with each passing year. Why is that I wonder? Why are parents taking their children out or a normal school environment? At school, kids are surrounded by healthy competition plus educational and social interaction with their peers, which many by the way, will argue is essential for growth? Lets take a look at some of the reasons folks are opting for homeschooling.

Well, to begin with, homeschooling is more flexible for the family unit. Field trips can be had at the convenience of the family, not the school. Field trips can be very educational, as by taking tours the kids get to meet a range of diverse folks and perhaps get to engage in some voluntary work which can only be good for growth and understanding. A whole curriculum can be worked into field trips alone, for example, discussing the experiences, writing about the events, interviewing, note taking, drawing and paining, presenting etc. The list is endless.

For those parents that have any kind of home based business, this also provides a great opportunity to teach business administration including PC skills, accounting, cost cutting, budgeting etc. Once again, its only limited by your imagination, but getting the young learners involved here can be invaluable experience.

Another great flexibility that comes with homeschooling is the family holiday. By working your own timetables you are able to take vacations at your convenience and this means the option to go in the off-season when the prices are considerably lower and the crowds much smaller.

Theres an increasing amount of homeschooling books and materials being introduced to assist the home learners, and this will continue as more and more parents are pulling their children out of the traditional educational system in a bid educate them to a higher standard from the discipline of the home classroom.

The above are just some of the more obvious advantages to homeschooling but you can see that flexibility and exposure to variety are the principal attractions here, and many parents also think that the homeschooling environment is safer and more enriching than that provided by traditional schools. However, there are perhaps as many cons as there are pros, but thats for another article.
